Privacy Policy

Privacy Policy

Effective date: November 1, 2026

This policy describes what information is handled when you read assertivepatient.com, why, and what choices you have. The operator is the person or organisation running this health information blog, referred to below as we or us.

Visit logs

The servers that deliver Assertivepatient pages keep ordinary logs. An entry can include your IP address, the time of the request, the page asked for, your browser and device type, and the referring page. We use this to keep the site running, to spot faults and abuse, and to see broadly which guides are read. The lawful basis is our legitimate interest in running a secure, working website.

Because readers often look up sensitive health subjects, we do not try to link log entries to a named person or to build profiles of what anyone has read.

Cookies and similar technology

The site may use a few cookies or similar storage that pages need to display and function. No analytics, advertising or affiliate tracking is in place. If the site ever adds them, this policy will be updated first and the change explained.

Browser controls and opt-out signals

You can block or delete cookies in your browser, use private browsing or add tracking protection. If your browser sends a do-not-track or global privacy signal, we will honour it as an opt-out wherever our technology allows. Blocking some storage may change how a page behaves.

Emails you send

If you write to [email protected], we receive your address and whatever you include. We use it to answer you and to correct an article, because you asked and because accurate content is in our legitimate interest. We do not sell messages or publish one without your agreement. Please keep health details out of your email; we cannot give personal medical advice.

Newsletters and forms

If Assertivepatient offers a newsletter or form, the details you enter are used only for that purpose, on the basis of your consent. Each message will explain how to unsubscribe, and you can also ask by email.

Outside services

Publishing relies on outside providers such as hosting and content delivery. They may receive technical data about your visit so pages load, under their own privacy notices. We describe no embedded videos or social widgets on the site. If any are added, or if analytics, ads or affiliate tracking ever arrive, we will say so here.

Retention

Visit logs are held for a short time before being erased or boiled down to anonymous counts. Emails stay only while they help us reply, fix an article or meet a legal duty, and are then deleted.

Asking about your data

Depending on where you live, you may ask what personal information we hold, have it corrected or deleted, object to certain uses, restrict processing or receive a copy. Email [email protected] and say what you want done. We may need to confirm who you are first, and will respond within the time the law sets.

Withdrawing consent

Where we rely on consent, such as for a newsletter or optional storage, you can withdraw it at any time. The Cookie Policy page linked in the footer explains how to change your choices, and you can email us to stop a mailing.

Raising a complaint

If you think we have mishandled your details, you can go to your local data protection authority in the EU, EEA or UK, or to the OAIC in Australia. You may do so at any point, with or without writing to us first.

Children

Assertivepatient is written for adults managing their own care or that of someone close, and assertivepatient.com is not meant for under-13s. Nothing on the site is designed to collect details from a young person. A parent who learns that a child sent a message can ask us by email to delete it, and we will.

Security

We take reasonable steps to protect what we hold, including encrypted connections and limited inbox access. No online transmission or storage is completely secure, which is another reason to leave medical details out of messages.

International transfers

Hosting and delivery providers may process data in countries other than your own, where rules may differ. We choose providers with that in mind, and by reading the site you understand that technical data about your visit may travel this way.

Changes to this policy

This page will be edited if our practices or the rules around health websites change. The effective date at the top shows when the current version began, and significant changes will appear here.

Complaints and consent

Consent you have given can be withdrawn whenever you like, without affecting earlier use. Our cookie policy page sets out which cookies are used and how to change your mind about them. If you live in the EU, EEA or UK you can complain to your local data protection authority (in the UK, the Information Commissioner’s Office); in Australia, to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.
